Too many people think that the "rule" is real

I've said it before and I'll say it again: when choosing an engagement ring, the gentleman should consider the tastes of his wife and the state of your bank account (and credit rating). The woman gown, given the choice, should be well in its portfolio. Everyone else in the universe should only go to the full. Er ... with the possible exception of  wedding jewelry that is a kind of necessary if the ring is being purchased new or adapted from a source not so new.

In addition, if Mr. Twisties had followed two months salary rule would never have got the engagement ring I wanted. It did not take nearly that much.

* (I know the article is intended to be humorous, but still based on a crude assumption evening dress that has to be deflated at every possible opportunity. Too many people think that the "rule" is real, and therefore continue to tilt at this windmill in particular).
